Reissue of Passport

Reissue of Passport

A passport is a formal document that the government issues to a person attesting to their identity and citizenship. With a passport, a person can travel to other nations while being protected by the government.

When it comes to passport issuance, the Passport Office has two main processes. A fresh passport will be issued in one, and an old one will be reissued in the other. Every passport that is issued to an individual has a predetermined expiration date.

After its expiration date, the passport is no longer usable for travel or use as identification. Under these circumstances, the petitioner needs to apply under the reissue category for a passport booklet.

Documents Required for Reissue of Passport

When requesting the reissuance of a passport, a person must provide a specified set of documents. The list of general documents that a person needs in order to apply for a passport reissue is provided below.

Identity proof: A valid document bearing the full name of the applicant. This needs to be filed because both official records and the person’s passport should have this information.

Age proof: The candidate must additionally produce a document attesting to their birthdate. Age proof can be obtained by a birth certificate or a school leaver certificate that prominently displays the date of birth.

Address proof: A record attesting to the applicant’s residency is also necessary. There must be a match between the address on the application form and the address in the document.

Photos: When applying for a passport reissue, people must submit two recent passport-sized photos of themselves, even though the majority of Passport Seva Kendras have cameras set up to snap passport-sized photos of the applicants.

Old passport booklet: In order to obtain a new passport, the applicant must also provide their expired passport booklet.

First and last pages of the booklet in self-attested copy: The person must turn in self-attested copies of the first and last two pages of the previous passport booklet.

Appointment application receipt: In the event that the applicant scheduled their appointment online for Passport Seva Kendra, they must email a copy of the last page verifying the appointment’s date, time, and payment.

Police Verification Process for Reissue of Passport

The Passport Office decides if police verification is necessary once the application for a new passport has been submitted. Pre- or post police verification is possible here. For instance, the Passport Office might only demand a post-police verification if the applicant’s name, residence, and other personal information have not changed after the passport was issued.

To guarantee that the applicant has provided the proper information in the application, a pre-police verification may be necessary if the application has a different name, address, etc. Pre- and post-police verification may be necessary, depending on the passport office’s records and the availability of the appropriate tools to conduct the requisite checks.

The exceptions for different types of police verification chosen by the Passport Office for reissue of passport are based on applications for:

Re-issue in the case of lost or misplaced or stolen passport
Re-issue in the case of complete name change
